2022 Chevrolet Equinox vs. 2022 Ford Escape

The 2022 Chevrolet Equinox is available in four trims: LS, LT, RS, and Premier. The LS features 17-inch alloy wheels and LED headlights. You get rear privacy glass on the LT. Moving up to the RS gets you black-painted 19-inch wheels, roof rails, and a power liftgate. The Premier rolls down the road on 18-inch wheels and adds a hands-free operation to the power liftgate. The MSRP on the base-level LS is $26,995, with the Premier it is at $32,195.

You can also get the 2022 Ford Escape in four trims: S, SE, SEL, and Titanium. The S rides along on 17-inch steel wheels, while the SE swaps those out for 17-inch alloy wheels and adds chrome exterior trim. On the SEL, you get heated outside mirrors, 18-inch wheels, roof rails, and fog lights. The Titanium features 19-inch wheels, LED headlights and fog lights, and a hands-free liftgate. The MSRP for the base S trim is $28,520, and the Titanium runs $38,640.

Power and Performance

You get a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine on the 2022 Chevy Equinox. This engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and delivers 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque. Each trim comes with a front-wheel-drive system as standard, with an optional all-wheel-drive system available. The Equinox garners an EPA-estimated combined rating of 28 mpg.

On the 2022 Ford Escape, you have a few choices for your engine. Most trims come with a standard turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that produces 181 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque. The Titanium has a 2.5-liter hybrid powertrain with 200 total system horsepower paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission. This engine is also available on the SE and SEL. On the SEL and Titanium, you can also get a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder for 250 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque.

Front-wheel drive is standard on the three-cylinder and hybrid engines. All-wheel drive is standard on the turbocharged four-cylinder and available on all other trims of the Escape. You can expect a combined EPA-estimated rating of 30 mpg on the 1.5-liter, 26 mpg on the 2.0-liter, and 41 mpg on the 2.5-liter hybrid.

Comfort and Convenience

When you slide behind the wheel of the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox, you’ll discover an interior design for the comfort and convenience of drivers and passengers alike. The LS features keyless entry and push-button start, a Wi-Fi hot spot, a six-speaker audio system, and a 7-inch touch screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. You can add a power-adjustable driver’s seat and enhanced multi-color driver information display with the LS Convenience package.

The LT includes the LS Convenience package’s features, satellite radio, remote rear-seat folding levers, and illuminated sun visors. With the Confidence & Convenience package, you can get dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The Infotainment package adds a navigation system, HD backup camera, 120-volt household-style outlet, heated steering wheel, and an 8-inch touch screen. The RS has the Confidence & Convenience package features, black interior styling elements, and red stitching. The RS Leather package adds a Bose sound system and leather upholstery.

On the Premier, you get ambient cabin lighting, a wireless charging pad, a 120-volt power outlet, an upgraded backup camera, driver’s seat memory settings, leather upholstery, and an 8-inch touch screen. If you add the Confidence & Convenience II package, you can also enjoy a power-adjustable passenger seat, a heated steering wheel, ventilated front seats, and heated rear seats. Finally, the Infotainment II package adds a seven-speaker Bose premium sound and navigation system to your Premier.

For the 2022 Ford Escape, you get a six-speaker sound system, Wi-Fi hot spot, and a 4.2-inch central display screen on the S trim. Moving up to the SE adds keyless ignition and entry, satellite radio, two USB rear ports, and an 8-inch touch screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. You can add the Co-Pilot 360 Assist+ package to get a navigation system or the Cold Weather package for a heated steering wheel and heated front seats.

The Confidence & Convenience package for the SE includes dual-zone automatic climate control, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and a rear armrest. A panoramic sunroof is also available on the SE and above. The SEL features imitation leather upholstery. The Technology package adds driver’s seat memory settings, a wireless charging pad, and a 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium stereo. On the Titanium, you get ambient lighting, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a power-adjustable passenger seat. The Titanium Elite package adds a leather-wrapped steering wheel, leather upholstery, wireless charging pad, and Bang & Olufsen sound system.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

The 2022 Chevrolet Equinox has safety and driver-assistance features to help keep you and your passengers safe. You get an advanced air bag system to protect you in an accident. Standard driver-assistance features include forward collision mitigation, lane-keeping assist, and a rear-seat reminder. The Confidence & Convenience package includes parking sensors and a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert. You can add adaptive cruise control and a surround-view camera system with the Confidence & Convenience II package.

On the 2022 Ford Escape, you get similar safety and driver-assistance features. The advanced air bag system will deploy to protect you in a collision. You also get forward collision mitigation, a blind-spot monitor, and lane departure mitigation as standard features. Features available on the SE and above include lane-keeping assist, evasive steering assist, and adaptive cruise control. The SEL adds parking sensors, and a head-up display is available with the Titanium Elite package.

When compared head-to-head, the 2022 Equinox and 2022 Escape appear similar. However, when comparing features to price point, the Equinox comes out on top with more standard features at a lower MSRP.
